    Hi Trevor,

I have been quite busy, actually. I've been working on my diploma and I haven't had much time to blog. I did manage to write about our new money, though! How do you like it?

I saw on TV that there are huge fires in your part of Australia! Are you still OK? We've got storms in Europe at the moment. Winds are blowing up to 200 kph and there are fallen trees, crushed cars, and overturned lorries everywhere. The traffic is jamed, houses are damaged and it's still not over.
We hope to ride it out successfully and without too much damage!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Yes - I saw the damage of the storms in Europe on our TV news.

The fires here in Australia this summer have been terrible. We are having the worst drought on record combined with very hot north winds. Over a million hectares of forest and bushland have been burnt in Victoria (800km east of where I live) and the fires have been burning non stop for 51 days.

We have had many fires here in South Australia too, but most of them have been less than 100 hectares and only burnt for a few hours. None of them have been near our home, thankfully. Many people near Adelaide have been worried because some idiot has been deliberately lighting some of the fires. The police haven't caught this terrible person yet.

Now we have the opposite problem. We have had heavy rain for the last two days and much of outback South Australia has been flooded. Many roads will be closed for a week or more. They are flying in food to some of the small towns there and also to people who live on sheep and cattle stations (farms).

Australia can be a strange place at times.

One thing we really hope for is plenty of rain this coming winter and spring (May - October) to fill up our reservoirs and help the rivers to start flowing normally again. We have very severe water restrictions. In Victoria it is even worse because they are not allowed to even water their gardens. Many plants are dying. This rain will help a little, but we need more rain over the next six or seven months.

I saw the footage on fires in Australia on our TV news, too. It looked horrible! I hope they manage to put them all out and prevent further fires, as well. I really hope they catch the person who deliberately set fires soon!

Well, in the meantime, cleaning actions are going on around Europe as I write this. The damage is immense and around 40 people died during the storm. Slovenia made it through the storm successfully (just a couple of damaged roofs) - we have the Alps protecting us, thnkfully!

Hope to hear from you again soon!
