Yes, I am! Those of you, who read my blog regularly, have probably started wandering where I am. Well, don't worry - I've been here all the time, safe and sound... just too hot and sweaty to do anything! This July has been the hottest one ever - with temperatures rising up to 36 degrees Celsius (in the shade!!)! So, what can a person do in such terrible heat?! Well, not a lot, that's for sure! But, neverthesless, I've done quite a lot. Let's see: I've helped my mum with the first part of the annual spring cleaning (which we always do in the summer time) - the second part is going to take place on the first slightly cooler day; I've also been taking my driving lessons very dilligently (I went to Ljubljana - that's our capital - as many as 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks!); I've taken up trekking (my walks take place between half past five and half past six in the morning, when it's still bearably cool); and... that's about it. I spend the rest of the time lying on my bed, with the ventilator turned on (on full speed, of course), pouring litres of icy cold lemonade down my throat, barely "hanging in there" (= barely staying alive)!! Well, our weatherman promised some rain for tomorrow, so that ought to make things a bit cooler! I do hope he keeps his promise!
A couple of days ago I went for a long morning walk. I got up at half past five in the morning and at six I was already on my way. I headed for a small hill nearby. It was a sunny morning but it wasn't hot, so the air was cool and very refreshing.
It took me about half an hour to reach the top of my destination. I stopped there and decided to have a rest. I enjoyed the beautiful view - it wasn't cloudy, so I could see really far. I listened to the birds singing in the forest behind me and I was having a splended time. Suddenly, I heard something. I turned around and I saw a young deer running along the edge of the woods. Then, to my big surprise, it was joined by its mother, which jumped out of the bushes and waited there until her baby disappeared safely into the forest. When the mother was sure that the baby was safe, she ran off after him and disappeared among the trees, as well.
It was such a beautiful scene - a great reward for getting up so early and bravely deciding to go for a long walk at such a "disgraceful" time!
I have a new friend. His name is Lordi (in Slovene that's a term of endearment for "Lord" and it would be pronouunced as "lordee"; the meaning would be "little lord") and he's a huge pigeon. He's black but parts of his body shine in metal green and purple. He's beautiful. I decided to call him Lordi because I think he must have royal blood running in his veins - he's bigger than any pigeon I have ever seen and he has better manners, too, because he always answers back when I call him (neither does he poop on our heads when we're in the garden - so, you see what I mean by "better manners"). He comes to greet me every morning. He always sits on the roof of the house across the street so that he can see me through the window and he stays there until I notice him and greet him back. So, as you can see, he is not only big and well-behaved, he is also very smart. Doesn't that sound like royalty to you, too?
